The Southeastern Atlantic region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine recently appointed a task force to assess disaster planning. Here’s a description of its goals and a list of members on the task force.

Mid Atlantic/Southern Chapter Joint Meeting

Sara McClurken, of Solinet, will be offering a disaster preparedness CE course at this year’s Mid Atlantic/Southern Chapter joint meeting in Atlanta. At the end of this course, Susan and I will be providing a 30-minute session on the “Top 10 Tips for Writing and Maintaining a Disaster Plan.” Other disaster preparedness programming at the conference include Dr. Joe Bresse, CDC Influenza Branch, speaking on the bird flu and a disaster preparedness poster that Susan and I will be presenting.

Disaster Preparedness Symposium

I see that the South Central Chapter of MLA is offering a Disaster Preparedness Symposium the day before their annual meeting in October. This looks like a great symposium and I hope someone can report on it soon after it’s over.

Disaster Planning Sessions at the Midwest Chapter Meeting

At the Midwest Chapter Annual Meeting there are two sessions on the pandemic flu. The first session is entitled “Panic or Pandemic: an Overview of Government Resources Concerning the Avian Flu.” The other session is entitled “Planning for Pandemic Influenza: a Librarians’ Point of View.” The planning session is presented by Chad Fennell and Lisa McGuire from the University of Minnesota Health Sciences Library.
